What if I haven’t had any experience with Vipassana/Insight Meditation?
This practice is appropriate for both beginning and experienced meditators.
Is there any cost to attend the group?
No. Consistent with Insight Meditation tradition, the teachings are priceless and therefore offered without cost. We rely on the tradition of Dana or generosity from the group in the form of a monetary donation for meeting expenses and room rental. You may donate here.
Who is the Yellow Dog?
The Sangha was begun by Jon Allen who met with a few meditators at his home in Helotes, Texas. His Labrador Retriever, Millie, would sit with us during meditation and welcome us with warmth and enthusiasm. Jon died of cancer in September 2009. And although she does not sit with us now, she is and always will be original Yellow Dog.
Are there guidelines? Yes:
- Please be on time. Arrive between 6 p.m. and 6:25 p.m.
- Take the intention to remain present both physically and mentally for the entire meeting.
- Turn your other electronic devices off, on airplane mode or on silent. Put them in another room if possible.
- Turn on your video. Keeping your screen on while meditating helps foster connection to the group. (This is a very loose guideline. It’s okay to connect without video, because tech is well, tech.)
- Only unmute to speak.
